A cold chain carrier’s job is to hold a thermal gradient against the outside world for as long as the journey requires, and the right engineering approach changes completely depending on scale, reuse cycle, and how rough the handling will be. Cryophase builds across that whole spectrum rather than treating it as one product line.

Eskies are solving for sustained thermal mass under genuinely harsh conditions — UV-treated, high-density plastics handle the Australian outdoor environment without degrading, and high-density polyurethane injected under pressure gives the shell both structural rigidity and real insulating value, rather than the thin foam liner that defines a budget icebox. The engineering target is weeks of frozen hold time, not days.

Insulated cooler bags solve a different problem: thermal performance that has to travel on foot or in a delivery vehicle, not sit static. Commercial-grade polyurethane insulation gets us R-values up to 5 in a format light enough to carry all day, and a flat-pack configuration exists specifically for delivery models like Meals on Wheels, where the same bag needs to hold hot or cold payloads and fold flat for efficient return freight. Shock resistance is built in because delivery-route handling is never as gentle as a warehouse.

Vacuum-insulated panel cooler bags push further again — vacuum insulation outperforms foam at the same thickness, and building that into a washable, reusable bag gives us the best thermal-performance-to-weight ratio in the category.

We’re currently applying the same engineering approach to a genuinely novel problem: a carrier for transporting human organs from donor to transplant hospital, combining hyperbaric oxygen technology with high-performance thermal insulation. It’s a different order of engineering difficulty, and exactly the kind of problem we want to be solving.
